Twelve* babies a week died suddenly and unexpectedly in the UK during 2023.

Along with Connor Rand MP we are hosting a parliamentary drop-in on the 27 October 2026 and we need your help to get as many MPs in the room as possible to make this happen.

Email your MP to ask them to attend and commit to:

  • A national plan for increasing health visitor numbers to improve support for new parents
  • Regulation and a minimum qualification standard for anyone providing professional sleep support and advice
  • A new government-backed safer sleep campaign to support everyone looking after young babies to feel confident about safer sleep

*Based on averaging the 644 sudden and unexpected deaths of infants under one year of age during 2023. 2023 is the most recent year where the most complete data is available. Data from 2024 currently indicates that 11 babies died every week; this may increase as investigations are completed and reported over the coming year.

12* babies die suddenly and unexpectedly every week in the UK.

That’s 12 too many.

That's why we are calling on the government to take steps to reduce infant mortality and work towards a future where no baby’s life ends just as it starts.

Along with Connor Rand MP, we are co-hosting a parliamentary drop-in session for MPs to ask them to get involved in the Campaign for Safer Starts.

MPs receiving emails from their constituents is one of the best ways to get them in the room!

  • Share your experience as a parent, or your experience as someone caring for a child, and navigating the many opinions and conflicting advice you might receive.
  • Follow up your email with a phone call to your local MP’s office. To telephone their office at the House of Commons, call 020 7219 3000 and ask to be put through to their office giving your MP’s name.
